Imam Husain
Introduction
Imam Husayn is the grandson of the last Messenger of Allah, Hazrat Muhammad۔ He is the son of Hazrat Ali and the younger brother of Hazrat Hasan. His name is ‘Husayn’ and ‘Shabbeer’ and surname is Abu Abdullah۔ He is known by the titles of Sibt e Rasool (i.e. grandson of the Messenger of Allah) and Rayhana tur Rasool (i.e. the flower of the Messenger).
Birth
He was born in the fourth year after Hijrah on the 5th of Sha’ban-ul-Mu’azzam in Madinah Munawwarah. The Beloved Prophet ﷺ named him ‘Husayn’ and ‘Shabbeer’, and referred to him as his own son.
Sayings of the Beloved Prophet ﷺ about Imam Husain
- The Beloved Prophet said ﷺ , ‘I am from Husayn and Husayn is from me, Allah Almighty loves the one who loves Husayn
(Tirmizi, vol. 5, p. 429, Hadees 3800) - The Beloved Prophet ﷺ was once asked who was the most beloved to him from the Ahl-e-Bayt. He said: Hasan and Husayn, and he would say to Sayyidatuna Fatima ‘Bring me my sons’, and then he would smell them and embrace them.

Martyrdom of Imam Hussain
The great story of bravery is remembered from the battle of Karbala, in which thousands of Yazidis on one side and Imam Husayn on the other hand, along with about 72 of his companions, entered the field to achieve the truth. Imam Hussain reached the land of Karbala with his entire family and sacrificed his life protecting the religion of his grandfather and was martyred on 10 Muharram 61 Hijri 10 October 680 at age of 54.
